They love their Second Amendment in Wisconsin. First Amendment? Not so much. You can have a concealed gun in the gallery but be careful where you read that newspaper!

The rules in the gallery will also prohibit bags and briefcases, which will require the installation of lockers at an undisclosed cost. But Republicans left in place their rule from last session allowing concealed guns and other weapons for people with a valid permit.

    Really. What could go wrong?

What could go wrong? A pissed off union member that can’t read (oxymoron) with an assault rifle barges in to the gallery and starts shooting up the place. That is why legislators are allowed to protect themselves and carry concealed weapons.

I’m sure those with a valid permit have been thoroughly vetted for their fitness to have a gun. Where on the list is the 1st amendment being trampled?

Um, John. Anyone can carry a concealed weapon in the gallery.

Lamonster. Newspapers are speech. Apparently they’re dangerous.

Yes, newspapers are free speech to the speaker, or publisher in this case. It doesn’t apply to the reader. The list you posted says that the rules are for reasons of safety and decorum. I’m thinking that the rustling of newspaper in the gallery would most likely fall under the latter.

It would be awful if someone rustled a newspaper.

Or was eating or talking on the phone. Legislators are such delicate and skittish creatures, you know. ;-)

Well, someone could shoot them if they misbehave.

  • Profile picture of Lamonster Lamonster said 5 months ago:

Groucho, by “them” do you mean the legislators or those in the gallery?

  • Profile picture of Groucho Groucho said 5 months ago:

    Legislators obviously.

It may take a little constituent on politician violence for the politician to remember who they work for.
It’s glaringly obvious many of them on both sides of the aisle have forgotten.

Just saw the long lines of folks across the country stocking up on guns and ammo, with supplies running out in some cases, during a program on Fox News. That’ll teach the leftist tyrants to mess around with the Second Amendment or do something stupid like Rep. Schumer did in calling for Walmart to suspend sales of guns and ammo or ex-N.Y. Gov. Koch did in calling for a ban on all guns.

Those hell-bent on fundamentally transforming this country are NOT to be trusted, especially those idiots at the Journal News who’d think it’s a good idea to publish the locations of gun owners. Looks like we are now seeing the effects of that. Certainly the burglars in this case weren’t looking for a stash of Ho-Ho’s: http://www.wnd.com/2013/01/journal-news-gun-map-blamed-for-burglary/?cat_orig=us

By the way, it’s good to know there’s a place to go to if the fundamental transformation of this country gets out of control, which I just learned about on a Fox News segment … http://www.iiicitadel.com/

    Nothing about Wisconsin.

The more we talk about personal responsibility and accountability, the more the looney right talks about “come and take it”

What I find interesting about this whole debate is the amount of hostility on the pro-gun side (do their guns make them more paranoid?). One guy says he will start killing people if they come for his guns, another blows up on CNN and says it will be blood in the streets. I don’t hear Biden, Bloomberg, et. al. threatening to take guns by force, only to get some kind sanity in the system. I suspect if the government decided it was going to take everyone’s guns, the most vocal NPR members would pee their pants and meekly hand them over.
