Good morning, mike. I see you’re in your usual happy mood, callously denigrating people in desperate circumstances. Ever think of running for public office? Starting your own radio or TV show? You’d get a landslide following, I’m sure.
Anyway, the article does not mention who was in charge of this cluster foul-up. Goes to show the imperative of timely and adequate relief.

Liberal govt was in charge catpaw…Just the types you love to vote for. That’s who was in charge.
While I will agree that there are SOME there in desperate circumstances, I feel that most there are there to continue the welfare lifestyle

Think of it as waiting in line @ Walmart late on Thanksgiving night for those killer deals, only for free housing.

IT goes to show the mindset of the entitlement class.

Don’t Michigan and Ohio have Republican governors? Yep. They were in charge. LLM, you should write and ask them to turn in their “conservative” card.

I don’t see how someone can categorize a whole segment of the population like mike does. It just shows total ignorance and prejudice.

    Circumstances don’t necessarily determine mindset.
However, certain mindsets make certain ones eventual circumstances.

There is no shame in needing help at some time in our life. And we must keep in mind that human lives are not like cars. We cannot just take a person to an auto mechanic and say ‘here, fix it’. And unlike cars, no amount of money can guarantee the correction of long term issues. The problem is, mike, as long as you’re only paying attention to the worse examples of ‘welfare lifestyle’ You’re not going to understand and acknowledge that there are millions of people out there struggling to get by, taking whatever help they can get that would love nothing more than to be able to punch a time clock. Yes, there are some with mindsets that you speak of. That’s the result of generational poverty-thinking. They’ve never had to work hard for anything, so in a way, the idea is so foreign to them that it acts as a disability. You might as well teach them to fly rather than work. Their grandmomma survived this way, their momma survived this way, so how could it be so bad? You have to unlearn that behavior which won’t come from just ‘cutting all their aid’. How can you expect someone that has never had to work to all of a sudden hold down a job? And if you’re a potential employer and you have two candidates for a job-one with work history, a resume, and came to the interview nicely dressed and the other with NO work history, can’t even SPELL resume, and wore jeans and a t-shirt the interview-WHO DO YOU HIRE? But then there are stories like mine and my siblings. We grew up in poverty and relied on assistance from time to time. My mom grew up in a family where the women were expected to get married, have babies, and stay home. She at least had her HS diploma, but was ill equipt for having to play sole provider when my father decided to jump on his Harley and ride off into the sunset with a new girlfriend. So, its important to understand that crap happens and its not always from a character deficiency that we end up poor. My mom worked not one job, but SEVERAL jobs throughout our childhood-none much more than minimum wage and my mom found herself having at 40 to compete with 20 year olds for jobs. Its hard enough transitioning into the workplace at 40-its another thing having to compete with kids young enough to be YOURS for the job and promotions. Again, people cannot change their lifestyle overnight. People aren’t cars. Without the help of Uncle Sam, we would have been on the streets. I’ve seen first hand what too often happens to kids and their educational opportunities when a families living arrangements are not stable. The whole time, my mom’s attitude was that work is not an option-its the expectation. And school was not an option-it WILL be the expectation. She will work and WE will go to school. I am now gainfully employed and college educated. ALL THREE of us are gainfully employed with some kind of professional training or college. I depended on Federal Grants and subsidized loans to get through school. I would say my family has MORE than met the system half way. Regardless of being poor, we were instilled with principles when we were young that there were certain non negotiables in life; going to school and working were the two most important of those. A mindset of poverty will ensure you will stay in poverty. However being in poverty does not guarantee that people will have a poverty mindset. Its unfair to throw every family into the same boat not knowing a flipping thing about their story.

Both videos look like a rap concert letting out. And catpaw, maybe you’ll get lucky and 2 section 8 families will move in on both sides of your house. I bet you wouldn’t like that, would you?

  • Profile picture of think4yourself think4yourself said 5 months ago:

John-why not? Section 8 residence are on a shorter leash than low income or even traditional properties. Inspections are done regularly and recipients risk losing their voucher if the property is not kept up with or they cause trouble. Most felonies disqualify a person from getting S8 and if you’ve every LOST your voucher for any reason, you’re not going to be able to get another one. I’d rent to a Section 8 family. Its a guaranteed rent check as long as I held up my end of the deal and kept the place habitable. Slum Lords don’t like Section 8, because Housing Authority expects owners to actually keep the property HABITABLE.

  • Profile picture of JohnTaylor60 JohnTaylor60 said 5 months ago:

I know all about section 8 requirements think. And I still wouldn’t rent to someone on govt. assistance. I prefer to check out prospective tenants myself, have them sign a lease with all my requirements, get a security deposit, and get a check on time every month. Most people applying for section 8 assistance couldn’t pass the credit check I require.

  • Profile picture of think4yourself think4yourself said 5 months ago:

“And I still wouldn’t rent to someone on govt. assistance.”

I wouldn’t be so quick to admit that to a potential applicant, John. That’s the textbook definition of housing discrimination; especially if they were on assistance for being disabled. You can turn them down for not having enough verifiable income, but, under federal law you cannot deny them housing based on the source of that income.

  • Profile picture of JohnTaylor60 JohnTaylor60 said 5 months ago:

Really think? I know the laws, and I know what to say and do when it comes to renting my property. It also helps the house is in a nice neighborhood out near Riverwalk Park, and the monthly rent is $1350. That eliminates people on govt. assistance from even applying.

  • Profile picture of think4yourself think4yourself said 5 months ago:

Evidently not, John?. Ooops, my bad. It’s California State Law, not Federal Law:

Government Code Section 12955(m), Civil Code Section 51

    12955. It shall be unlawful:
    (a) For the owner of any housing accommodation to discriminate
against or harass any person because of the race, color, religion,
sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation,
marital status, national origin, ancestry, familial status, source of
income, disability, or genetic information of that person.

So, if that family receives over 2k a month in government assistance between momma’s cash aid, and little Johnny’s SSI money, guess what?

  • Profile picture of JohnTaylor60 JohnTaylor60 said 5 months ago:

I don’t discriminate for any of those listed reasons think. That would be a violation of the law.

But I don’t see it’s discrimination to not rent to someone on probation, parole, has a criminal record, has a pit bull, has no car, or if I just don’t like them.

    You sure about that John?

“And I still wouldn’t rent to someone on govt. assistance”

    12955. It shall be unlawful:
    (a) For the owner of any housing accommodation to discriminate
against or harass any person because of the race, color, religion,

    Correct.

    Entitlement complex:

Albeit some of those pushing and shoving for phones live in nice homes in Riverwalk Park, paying Mr Taylor his $1350 a month rent.
