But these were police officers – the role models for gun safety. They left their guns lying around the house like toys. The were careless. The took no responsibility. That’s the common denominator among the articles I’ve been posting. It’s like the pro-gun lobby doesn’t factor in the problem of widespread carelessness of the people they sell guns to. Granted – when you purchase a gun for self-protection it implies that you are buying the gun to kill someone with it. 98% of the people who buy guns for that purpose will *never* use that gun for it’s intended purpose. Most of them are careful. But we have people buying guns who were careless **before** the bought a gun and the only person they ever shot with the gun was a relative. Why is it an offense to you to have the issue of gun safety brought to the front. You immediately start naming other sources of accident like you don’t want it mentioned that guns kill people.
Imagine that – A gun seller trying to scrub clean the reputation of the very business he labors in.
Highlighting the senseless death due to guns is no different than warning people of the dangers of drug abuse or driving without a seatbelt. You just don’t want YOUR bread and butter tainted with the reality that you and others are probably selling guns to people who don’t have the intelligence to be responsible for them. Yeah, it’s the same with people who would sell their car to an idiot but you don’t get special treatment and neither do they.
