President Obama is selected as Man of the Year by Time Magazine.
He was also selected in 2008.
Time says it picked the president for his “impact and influence” and likely legacy.
Runner-up was Malala, the girl victim the Taliban shot in camel land.

Whew! Sure glad that’s over. The anticipation was killing me.

So that’s why Time’s circulation has been dropping like a rock in the last 4 years?
    That explains it.

And it will continue to dwindle as the GOP continues to cut education; the fruit being future generations of illiterates and do nothings. All so the rich and shameless can accumulate more wealth.

The cuts to education don’t do 1/10th of 1% that the damage of liberal ideology does in our public schools. For instance

Allowing parents to skate, not providing an educational atmosphere for their children at home.
Not pushing for payment of lost books, adding 51 million dollars a year, Just in CA, to the deficit.
    Having student-centered classrooms.
    collaborative student groups.
    removing corporal punishment

    just a few of them

That’s the ticket Lima! Let schools whip the crap out of them when they get out of line! And let the parents decide the ignorance level of their kids! We would rather teach our kids fables about magicians in the sky that speak stuff into existance rather than that ‘dangerous’ concept called scientific fact. And if we want our kids to hate homosexuals, by golly, that’s our right as parents to teach such ignorance!

mike, I think the parents have to pay for the lost books.
EC Section 48904(a)(1) holds parents or guardians responsible for the cost of replacing a textbook that is willfully defaced or not returned:

…the parent or guardian of any minor…who willfully cuts, defaces, or otherwise injures in any way any property, real or personal, belonging to a school district or private school, or personal property of any school employee, shall be liable for all damages so caused by the minor. The liability of the parent or guardian shall not exceed ten thousand dollars ($10,000). The parent or guardian shall also be liable for the amount of any reward not exceeding ten thousand dollars ($10,000) paid pursuant to Section 53069.5 of the Government Code. The parent or guardian of a minor shall be liable to a school district or private school for all property belonging to the school district or private school loaned to the minor and not returned upon demand of an employee of the district or private school authorized to make the demand.

Thus wear or damage to instructional materials through ordinary use, or from manufacturing defect, would not apply.

Well let’s require teachers to carry firearms then and be nihilists on every single issue like you model. Nothing works. It’s hopeless. You’re wasting your time. It’s not worth trying. Don’t do anything because it cost money.

Christ in Heaven! How do you avoid suicide on a daily basis when you are the spokes person for the meaninglessness of life?

Schools aren’t set up to be collection agencies Groucho.

Groucho, just because there is a law doesn’t mean it gets enforced.

Students are supposed to get suspended to for habitual foul language, but just like the books, that law gets skated over too. For the record, I am referring to student damaged or lost books. Nearly 2/3 of the districts in CA fail to collect a small percentage of what is owed them.

I don’t think this website has enough bandwidth for me to list the laws that aren’t enforced/selectively enforced in this country.

milemarker…i merely point out what creates a zoo atmosphere in classrooms, not a learning environment, and then you jump to wondering why I haven’t offed myself yet?

Please keep in mind, had ONE person at Sandy Hook been carrying, people like you wouldn’t be screaming from the rooftops about resending a basic human right, the ability to protect oneself.

Babies in the womb cannot protect themselves either, and are slaughtered by hundreds of times of that by abortion, just in the US, but there you sit SILENT about that.

more than 10x the children were killed in 2009 via abortion than all people killed by a gun in 2009

    http://cnsnews.com/news/article/planned-parenthood-did-one-abortion-every-95-seconds-many-one-year-live-cincinnati

As a matter of fact, more abortions were performed in one year, 2009, than died by gunfire in the 10 years from 2000-2009

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/robwaters/2012/07/24/gun-violence-the-public-health-issue-politicians-want-to-ignore/

That’s an abortion every 96 seconds in this country. or roughly 900 a day. 32 times the death toll of Sandy Hook…………..EVERY DAY

Now what right needs to be infringed upon?

LLM, when I first encountered you I thought you were a run-of-the-mill political nihilist but you turned out to be the more common existential nihilist kind with serious paranoid overtones. Not to be too personal about it but the female body naturally “aborts” fertilized zygotes, blastocysts and fetuses at FAR, FAR higher rates “every second” than the deliberate instances will ever approach. Yet nobody even has a funeral for them; nobody makes a peep when “God’s hand” is supposedly the instrument of those abortions. I read of a women who died last week in her 7th month of pregnancy because she couldn’t get an abortion. Her baby developed septicemia and it was killing both of them but she was in Ireland and couldn’t get abortion. She left three children behind.

But let’s not stop there. You’re raised the issue of crime and birth control in the same comment. Let’s look at that marriage. A few years ago Steven Levitt, an economist at the University of Chicago stunned the world with his study of the cause of the dramatic drop in the crime rate. It turns out that the crime rate began its decline when birth control and abortion became available. Nobody could figure it out while it was happening so some high profile urban police chiefs got lots of credit for it. One of them is the current boss of the LAPD who was running the show in Manhattan during the drop and he attributed it to his program of covering up graffitti and fixing broken window glass – anything except the fact that woman were taking birth control pills and getting abortions and reducing the number of children who would grow up unloved. That sounds like a far more plausible explanation to painting over graffiti. Levitt had found a real-life correlation between he crime rate and family planning. I don’t know if he won the Nobel Prize for doing that but he’s now a multi-millionaire with a huge following among economists.

Are you saying in order to reduce crime, we should abort more babies? Considering blacks abort their babies at a higher rate than whites, doesn’t that make you a racist?

  • Profile picture of milemarker milemarker said 5 months ago:

No. I’m saying crime dropped as a result of family planning. I’m not racist about abortion. I think any woman should have control of her own body. You’re the only one injecting race into the equation. By implication, you think 48,480 abortions by white women is somehow morally superior to the 9,288 abortions by black women during the same period. That’s racism.

    Indiscriminate killing is still killing.

  • Profile picture of Groucho Groucho said 5 months ago:

Think, John, et al, you are following the party line of changing the subject. Ain’t gonna work this time, the nation is pissed and tired of the killing by guns. One of the NRA’s favorite sayings is ‘we have enough laws on the books now’. Could be true, hopefully the govt. will start STRICTLY! enforcing them. Also make it easier to sue gun makers and sellers. Let them be scared for a change.

  • Profile picture of limalimamike limalimamike said 5 months ago:

guns are a god given right….get over it.
Do away with the 2nd, do away with the country….deal with it.
Maybe if gun manufacturers can get sued, then what is next? suing the car company and the dealership of the drunk that killed my aunt?
    get real.
Too bad we cannot legislate stupidity out of business.

MM. the term natural sticks out
also you forgot to mention that Mr. Levitt’s idea is a Theory, and one that isn’t widely followed by mainstream sociologists either.
Call me what you want. The results of the fruit of my labor speak for themselves
