It’s looking like the gun control dreams of many a liberal are crashing and burning short of the runway of reality as more Americans wake up to what is being attempted.

“A massive boycott backed by the NRA and outdoorsmen and women outraged that the nation’s largest outdoors show banned the exhibition of assault weapons has caused the show’s organizers to abruptly cancel the week-long event in Harrisburg, Pa.

The successful boycott, started by the website mynortheastoutdoors.com, was the biggest demonstration of support by the outdoors industry yet against gun control efforts being pushed in Washington and in several states.”

Hey! Look at that! You can still post new topics here even with the boom being readied to drop.

Interesting that “assault weapon” is interchangeably used with “sporting rifle.” Which is it?
What kind of sport needs a rapid-fire fire military weapon self-loaded by a 30 round (or more) magazine? What kind of game makes such a weapon a preference for hunting? If ten rounds can’t take down a rabbit or wild turkey then how will a bananna magazine make a difference?

Have you ever heard of plinking?? Ever heard of target shooting?

Do people really need a vehicle that goes over 70 mph? Based on your criteria, the government should ban all vehicles that go over 70 mph.

Here is a fact that will twist the gun grabbers in a knot. The AR-15 style of rifle is the most popular centerfire rifle in America.
Even though it is a low power, small caliber gun.

JB, what in the world is the matter with you. catpaw has decided that you don’t need any firearm that he personally doesn’t approve off. How dare you have a contradictory opinion or the desire to exercise your constitutional rights.

Hey catpaw, here is sport that doesn’t involve killing. It’s call “tactical rifle competition”. And they use those big ‘ol nasty high capacity magazines. And FYI, all these rifles are semi-auto, not like the machine gun that you seem fixated on.

Yes, as a matter of fact as a kid I did plink and target shoot. With a pettet gun or .22. Once went traipsing around with a shotgun. Not quite the same as a rapid fire military weapon with a magazine of 30 rounds of 7.62 ammo with a muzzle velocity of 3,200 ft. per sec. Didn’t do that until I was in the military plinking at human-shaped targets.

Let me guess, the bananna magazine holds just 10 rounds and there’s no way the weapon can be modified into an automatic weapon.

Actually it’s 5.56×45 (.223) Ammo. And it really doesn’t make any difference what the mag capacity is. A proficient shooter can go thru three tens all most as fast as one thirty. maybe an additional 6 seconds.

  • Profile picture of catpaw catpaw said 3 months, 3 weeks ago:

That’s six seconds a potential victim can get out of the way or find cover or let a cop get an aim.

The AR 15 was modeled for the M 16, which fired the 7.62 NATO round. Fully automatic it has a firing rate of 800 rounds per minute.Darn handy, if you’re a soldier in a jungle; never used it for duck hunting. Did get to see what it could do to a chicken when a nervous troop “heard something” to his front at night.

catpaw, it doesn’t matter if the magazine holds 30 rounds or not. It’s used for a shooting competition, not for killing. And just because a person has the knowledge to convert a weapon to full auto doesn’t mean they are going to. Not everyone who owns a weapon is a maniac. You are really out of touch with reality sometimes.

Hate to break it to ya Cat but the M16 is and always has been 5.56×45 (.223). The M14 is 7.62×51 and nothing was patterend after it. It was the last big bore rifle used as standard issue. If you don’t believe me, and I’m sure you don’t then do a wiki look up. I only spent 21 years in the military so what do I know.

here ya go, did it for ya. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M16_rifle

A semi assault weapon can fire up to 100 rounds per minute. No, I don’t think everyone who owns a weapon is a maniac. I think maniacs should not have access to weapons.
That will not keep a maniac from ever getting a gun anymore than required licenses will keep a drunk driver off the road. It does, however, mitigate abuses of firearms (and cars) to a notable degree.
The mental health issue should be applied to jails and prisons. Psych counseling should be made available as part of incarceration instead of the warehouse mentality that prevails now.
Certain options (like extended magazines) and ammo should be restricted or taken off the market for the same reason hand gernades and rocket launchers aren’t available in WalMart. There is no justification for them.
Of the 3 million AR 15′s (or weapons like them) how many have been used to kill a home intruder? How many unarmed and denseless people have been murdered by such assault weapons?

You’re right. Now that I think of it, it was the M-14. I stand corrected.
But for all that, machine guns should be banned.
