In a bizarre onset of amnesia regarding the number of assassinations and attempted assassinations of US Presidents, and threats against them by enemies both foreign and domestic, the National Rifle Association expressed its resentment of the present First Family’s security measures, seemingly oblivious to the fact that Presidents and their families have had special security measures because they have been the targets of political enemies since the founding of this country.

Apparently a schoolroom massacre wasn’t enough to jolt the NRA morality to understand that children are especially vulnerable. The NRA reserved special resentment for two more children – the Obama daughters – in a YouTube campaign and taunted the nation by calling that protection “elitist”.

NRA membership is said to have roared to life as the organization’s leadership insinuated that the children of the President – whose father is the target of every anti-American terrorist on the face of the earth – aren’t worthy of any special protection.

Asked to comment on the Secret Service details assigned to Former First Lady Laura Bush and those of daughters Jenna and Barbara while they were college students, the NRA did not quickly respond to emails.

Wrong again liar. NRA is simply pointing out the hypocrisy of the left creating gun free zones for the common people and arming to the teeth the schools where their kids attend. The gun policies of Obama and the left have increased the membership of the NRA and gun sales more than any advertising campaign ever could.

What were the policies? I understand the President will lay out recommendations on Wednesday, but, again, what were the Obama policies? I heard what the NRA says Obama’s polices are, but I’m still waiting to hear what Obama says his policies are. You make my case for me since you confirmed the NRA sales pitch to be “whatever” Obama’s position is being the key to NRA’s membership success. The funny part is, the only thing Obama has said so far is that doing nothing is not an option. I suspect all the gun grab stuff and the elitist stuff is the part NRA claims is Obama’s position. We’ll know tomorrow. I predict 99% of American gun owners won’t have anything to complain about.

There’s a difference between a paranoid, inexperienced, joe blow running amok with a machine gun and a trained secret service agent.

Machine guns are already outlawed for Joe Blows. But don’t let that get in the way of the lies and gross exagerations that you need to make your case against guns. Perhaps you and maggiepoo/demandproof/milemarker could start using dead kids like President Urkel plans to do. Symbolism over substance is the Democratic way.

That, is no worse than your boy, with children surrounding him, some in obama gear no less, pimping for gun control.

    dril
Catpaw has gone off the deep end. He has been made aware of the fact that the “LAW ABIDING” general population does not have access to automatic weapons….since the 1930′s

Typical liberal that he is, he continues to tell a lie, hoping it will turn into the truth.

MM, no matter how much you twist the words in that video clip you can’t make a pretzel. You have totally misused words like “elitist” and “resentment” and “amnesia” to try and change the message they are sending. Please show us one instance of the NRA insinuating that the president’s children are not worthy of special protection.

Easy, catpaw. No one is calling for a paranoid, inexperienced joe blow to be guarding the school (much less running amok) with a machine gun. Have you tried the decaf? It’s really not bad. ;-)

Here’s the thing I don’ get: why all the emotion? It seems to me that the NRA types get really, really angry and loud whenever the subject of guns comes up. Wouldn’t it help their cause to discuss the subject calmly and rationally? I have not heard anywhere a plan to totally ban guns.

It’s an emotional subject, groucho. The anti-2nd crowd get just as emotional.

There are deeper root issues Groucho that have more to do with the role of government. The gun debate is a symptom of a bigger issue. The issue has come to the forefront since Obama took office in 2008. The issue has to do with just how much power the federal government should have and what are the constitutional parameters around such power. Everything from gun control to taxes to health care boil down to two warring views as to the scope, size, and power of the federal government. There are those, also, that believe that we live at the mercy of the constitution. While others believe that the constitution bends at the will of the people. The problem is that each side disagrees as to who ‘the people’ are. Each claim to be the voice of the people. The polarity in this nation has never been worse-at least in my lifetime. Both sides have done their part, engaging in the most absurd hyperbole, to ensure that the political environment remains ‘us versus them’. There are dangers to allowing government to go too far in either direction-either too big, or too small.

I guess I don’t see it Lamont. No one that I know of is calling for banning all guns or shouting they will kill people if they don’t give up their firearms. And let’s face it, there are no conspiracy theories on the gun control side that the gun owners will take over the country. And ‘anti-2nd’ is a little over the top.

“There are those, also, that believe that we live at the mercy of the constitution.”

No, we are at the mercy of those in a position to interpret the constitution and of those who would circumvent the constitution.

Anti-2nd includes those who would attach unwarranted restrictions, not just those who would ban guns all together. Those total-banners would include people like Michael Moore, who could put Lapierre and Alex Jones to shame when it comes to nutty ideas.
