John Brennen is going before the U. S. Senate as I am typing this to be questioned as to his qualification to be head of the C.I.A.. I expect the majority of the questioning and posturing will have to do with the drone program that is targeting terrorists. Some of the terrorist casualties have been U.S. citizens. What do you think? Is the drone program working? Is it legal? Should we continue it?

With as fast as this admin pulls the bait and switch, the definition of an enemy of the state could be your grandma tomorrow.

    What is your opinion Grouch?

Politics aside, I believe that anyone who joins the forces of our declared enemies, puts themselves in jeopardy, so tell your grandma to choose her friends carefully.

Mike’s got a point here. There is the uncomfortable question of due process which every US Citizen is entitled to. In this most charged political environment, hate groups could esily be the next target. I have a problem with leaving it up to politicians with political/social agendas being left to determine what only judges and juries of one’s peers should be deciding. When you remove due process and evidenciary laws from the equation, its easy to oppress those we find unacceptable. It wouldn’t be that far of a stretch to suggest that the Family Research Council (or Chick Fi-la for that matter) could be subject to drone attacks in the future. The White House should not have this much power.

I agree with you on this Groucho, but I also think if Bush had done this, and had a Kill list like Obama the left media would be up in arms, but for Obama, not so much. fair?

  • Profile picture of think4yourself think4yourself said 4 months, 1 week ago:

I would have less of an issue with such a ‘kill list’ if they were American Citizens who had ALREADY been tried and convicted in a court of law.

Mach, what earthly difference who does it? And yes, if it gives you some comfort, I am sure the press would have blasted Bush for doing it, and Cheney. The fact remains, the Executive Branch is trying to keep us safe.
Think, when a U.S. citizen joins a foreign force against their country, then IMO, they give up due process. And I am also getting sick and tired of the protesters holding up posters about innocent civilians getting killed. I seem to remember some 3000 innocents getting killed on 9/11. What do they think happened during WWII when we bombed the hell out of Germany and Japan?

Mach, I might also note that it was NBC that broke the story on the drone memo. So I guess they are not liberal all the time.

What if a staunch 2nd amendment supporter were to verbally bash, on a video, the administration, with an arsenal in the background?

Who makes the decision of enemy or not?

  • Profile picture of Groucho Groucho said 4 months, 1 week ago:

Did he sign up to fight against his country?

  • Profile picture of limalimamike limalimamike said 4 months, 1 week ago:

being vigilant against a president who is in to taking rights away from citizens on a whim doesn’t require to sign up to fight against a country……

I think those type of people would be targeted….like a state militia.

  • Profile picture of Groucho Groucho said 4 months, 1 week ago:

please enumerate the rights you have lost since President Obama took office in 2008. And if you are going to suit up and join a militia against the United States armed forces, you’re gonna need a bigger gun.

And, as you love to point out, please stay on topic.

As I recall, it was Bush’s policy to track down terrorists and carry out “justice” even if it meant violating air space and borders. Obama continued the policy.
I don’t see how due process can apply in a foreign country. If a terrorist happens to have American citizenship, then I’d think he forfeits that citizenship and it’s protections by giving his alliegence to an enemy of his country, dedicated to death and destruction. Terrorists are not targeted on rumor. There are parameters and criteria that put him in the category of a terror threat.

Groucho-one may counter argue that he intends on fighting FOR his country. What concerns many Americans is how we have, truely, become two Americas. E Pluribus Unum is, to some, merely an illusion. Do you think its a stretch to believe that one America could declare war against the other America? If you would dismiss this as paranoid thinking-let me remind you that its happened once before in our nation’s short history. It could happen again as long as our Nation’s leadership refuse to recognize the legitimate concerns of the ‘others’. Right now, our leaders seem to think that marginalizing the opposition somehow legitimizes their own positions. There was more fundamentally going on in 1861 than simply slavery. There was the unresolved questions of state versus federal power and the short sightedness of the Union to understand the dire economic consequences to the south of emmancipating the slaves (PLEASE don’t take this as me JUSTIFYING slavery in any way). DC has a habbit of making broad reaching decisions that benefit one segment of society, while having at least PERCEIVED dire consequences on others. So I don’t think its fair to say that the anti Obama gun nut is preparing to fight against America. In his eyes, he’s preparing to defend America against its own government. Questioning leadership and fearing oppression does not make one an enemy of the state. They have not been convicted of any crimes that warrants a death sentence.
