Shady Hook elementary Principal Dawn Hockspoung greeted her students and staff each morning with the message “Be nice to each other”.
In the days following the Sandy Hook massacre more than 100 people have died from gun accidents and murders . 100~ and that is low figure compared to other years.
Gun Numbers(2010) : DOWN – murder, aggravated assault and robbery
UP : – manufacturing, ownership, non-lethal injuries, assault and suicide by gun
Not just the raw numbers are conflicting. For each expert or study there is another that reaches opposite conclusions. The best studies link causality to statistics…but even that is open to question.
HARD FACTS : Compared to other citizenry Americans own more guns than anyone .
Our homicide is starkly higher than any other advanced country. Guns make that possible.
No one number tells the whole story when it comes to guns.
    “Be nice to each other”.

    “Thou shall not kill”. GOD

John, explain that to your soul buddy, LLM, who says gun ownership is God-given. Anyone at anytime is ordained by God to own a gun. Compare that with the one 100% accurate correlation Sagefever points out: gun injuries and deaths are directly related to gun access, just like child abuse correlates with people who have greater access to children. It’s the inconvenient truth the pro-gun lobby can’t dismiss.

A better interpretation is “Thou shall not murder”. Self-defense is allowed.

John Bravo says, again “Thou shall not kill”. Precisely.

Car injuries and death are directly related to car access.

Gun violence in America is off the chart compared with every other country on the planet. The gun-homicide rate per capita in the U.S. is 30 times that of Britain and Australia, 10 times that of India and four times that of Switzerland. When confronted with such a large deviation, a scholar would ask, Does America have some potential cause for this that is also off the chart? I doubt that anyone seriously thinks we have 30 times as many crazy people as Britain or Australia. But we do have many, many more guns.
There are 88.8 firearms per 100 people in the U.S. In second place is Yemen, with 54.8, then Switzerland with 45.7 and Finland with 45.3. No other country has a rate above 40. The U.S. handgun-ownership rate is 70% higher than that of the country with the next highest rate.
The effect of the increasing ease with which Americans can buy ever more deadly weapons is also obvious. Over the past few decades, crime has been declining, except in one category. In the decade since 2000, violent-crime rates have fallen by 20%, aggravated assault by 21%, motor-vehicle theft by 44.5% and nonfirearm homicides by 22%. But the number of firearm homicides is essentially unchanged. What can explain this anomaly except easier access to guns?

The number of homicides using knives, blunt objects, rifles, and other methods is essentially unchanged in this time period as well. Is easy access to knives and blunt object the reason murders by these means has not gone down?

“Car injuries and death are directly related to car access.”

But cars are not do not have designs for the purpose of killing people. Cars don’t have 30-round magazines that can be emptied in seconds. Cars have a regulation and legislation that guns do not.

Very weak comparison and argument. Try blaming video games, the news media, crazy people, and naive, silly, people who don’t own guns—I’m sure there’s a correlation of those factors and gun homicides. Afterall, we all know guns don’t kill people…..

Cars don’t need to go 160 mph, but they are sold routinely.
I bought my gun for target shooting only. I did not buy it for killing people or things. It has been a very good gun and has not broken out of my safe and gone off the the bars and had a few drinks and then gotten in a wreck. He’s a good gun.

The article I quoted plainly says reduction includes “nonfirearm homicides by 22%.” Is Time lying to us?

“I bought my gun for target shooting only. I did not buy it for killing people or things.”
Does that mean you have a god given right to buy a machine gun without restriction?

  • Profile picture of John Bravo John Bravo said 5 months ago:

The 2nd Amendment guarantees that my right to bear arms is not infringed. Whether that comes from God or man I will leave up to others. My GOD has commanded me that I shalt not murder, and I follow his commandments. He did not command me not to have fire arms.

Not sure why you get a hard on over machine guns which have been banned since the 30′s. I am certainly not advocating allowing purchase and possession of machine guns.

Yes catpaw, why are you fixated on machine guns? When was the last time a machine gun was used in a murder in the U.S.? Maybe you can find an article in Time Magazine to back you up. And do you agree with Time Magazine that President Kardashian should be “person of the year?”
