    Shady Hook elementary Principal Dawn Hockspoung greeted her students and staff each morning with the message “Be nice to each other”.
    Those simple words struck me in their simplicity and their power. In the aftermath of the Sandy Hook massacre , those five words seem so naive, useless. Yet they are what separates us from that evil, they can start a chain of real change. Those five words are Dawn’s legacy and our hope.
    Lois Henry had a great but terrifying article Sunday~ outlining the ordeal of accessing meaningful mental health care for two children. Real change is needed here ~ parents should not have to lie so that their child gets treatment. That these two have the commitment, courage and love to accept the label “child abuser” speaks volumes for their character. It speaks volumes about the state of the mental health system. I urge you to call your state representatives, that law needs adjustment. Yesterday. When three doctors say that a child is a “walking time bomb” with no action taken by authorities~ we have our answer as to why some of the Adam Lanza’s of the world occur.
    A complete review of county procedures regarding mental health access is in order ~ call your council person and express your concerns .
    Those simple words “be nice to each other” are really very powerful.

    1) I posted an explanation earlier which should clear it up, maybe you missed it.

    Maybe I can clear this up for you, Andy.
    On another thread, Sage was talking about weapons. In you usual classy way you answered her and ended with “Hope this clears up some of the erroneous info you are presenting here.”
    Sage answers (politely) and quotes Andy. ‘Easy enough to see how “erroneous info you are presenting here”.
    Andy, (clueless as to what ” ” means) says show me where I was wrong.
    Sage (smarter and classier than Andy) doesn’t bite. Andy stalks her and asks same question in another thread. Sage stays classy. Andy stays clueless.
    Hope that helps you there Andy. Rest easy.
    2) Please don’t start your snarky crap with Sage. She is a nice person and doesn’t deserve or need it. Get your needle out for me or someone who doesn’t mind arguing with you.

    Fifty years ago, mental health care was cruder and less well developed, but it was much more available and better subsidized by the state.

    Today, we know much more about mental health and related needs, but state support for mental health care and its practical uses is way down.

    AD~ even in the private sector mental health is lacking. A person should not have to wait six months to see a therapist/psychologist. It seems the pat answer is for the doctor to write a script and hope for the best.

    I have only met a handful of therapist/psychologist over the years, all socially and have two in the family. After talking to these folks for a few minuets the first question that pops into my mind is “who certified these people sane”. I have a cousin with a doctorate in psychotheropy that I wouldn’t want talking to my dog let alone a live human. When she’s talking all I can hear is somethinfg that sounds like a door bell. DingDong. And then you wonder how some people get so screwed up.
